"At a time when many businesses and families are facing the challenges brought by the recession, it is imperative for government to respond effectively and decisively to support them… that will mean protecting spending on frontline public services… [and] ongoing investment in our economic recovery plan, including support for skills development and for hard pressed businesses.” John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, The Scottish Government

With nearly 300,000 private sector enterprises in Scotland, employing over 2 million people and generating billions in revenue, supporting Scotland’s private sector is an integral part of ensuring economic recovery across Scotland.

Hearing directly from the Scottish Government, leading businesses and sector representatives, this conference will focus on how Government can continue to provide support for businesses and how we can develop partnerships to stimulate recovery and future growth. Speakers will discuss the impact of actions already undertaken, the progress achieved and how lessons can be learnt for the future.

Featuring extended networking opportunities and interactive discussions, the conference will focus on giving delegates practical examples of good practice in utilising innovation, efficiency and effectiveness to improve their bottom line, getting the most from their staff and successful business planning through the recession and beyond.

Throughout the day, delegates will also have the opportunity to discuss how we can continue to encourage the development of an entrepreneurial culture across Scotland, how we can support the creation of new businesses and the impact of the recession on this vital growth area.

Key Issues:
  • Supporting businesses, particularly SMEs, through the recession and beyond
